Excerpt and 99 pennies!

99 CENTS!

“Who are you?” He attempted to wrap his head around the idea that this woman appeared out of nowhere, in the middle of a blizzard, with her dog. He was certain he was still alive because he had a throbbing pain in his temples.
“I’m Charlie Lindon. I live a short distance that way.” She used his guitar to aim in the direction behind her.
“I’ll take those things.” He took his hat and mashed it on his head, then relieved her of his guitar and bag, hooking both of them over his shoulder. “I’m—”
“Bleeding. Your forehead.”
He pushed back the rim of his hat and wiped his head, looking down at the moist crimson smear on his fingers. “It’s nothing. Just a scratch.”
“Looks like more than a scratch,” she murmured, leaning in to investigate the wound closer. He got a whiff of her—strawberries and crème—and he instantly felt a tug low in his gut. He must be tired, or still reeling from the accident, or both to react this suddenly to a stranger. She held the flashlight, inspecting his head, and he got a good look at her eyes. Were they blue? Green? Her bottom lip was trapped between her teeth as she continued to examine at his head.
Movement at her feet made him look. The scraggly dog dang near killed him. “Is that yours?”
She didn’t take her eyes off his forehead. Now she was touching him, her finger tips probing the skin around the cut. The warmth of her touch felt amazingly good. “Yes. That’s Yogi.”
“Well, Yogi, that will cost me my career,” he muttered and pulled back from her touch, immediately irritated, not by her as much as the fact that he had a familiar ache growing in his body. How could he feel anything but regret after he’d wrecked his only means of transportation? Max was going to kill him.
“I know he ran into the road…I saw him. I tried to catch him, but you were driving fast, and the curve…well, I-I…” She pushed her hat back. A shock of pale blonde hair fell to her shoulder.
He looked into her gaze, wishing he could make out her features, but it was too dark. She moved the flashlight and the light feathered across her face. He caught a glimpse of a trembling bottom lip. Sympathy broke through his annoyance. Here she was, standing in the bitter cold, shivering. But he couldn’t let her get off so easily. “What owner would allow a dog to roam in this weather?”
“Who would drive in this snowstorm?” She tilted her jaw. “And Yogi usually stays close to the house.”
“I was caught in the snowfall unexpectedly.”
“Radio stations within a hundred miles in every direction are warning people of the icy conditions. You’re not from around here. License plate says Alabama.”

“It’s a rental.” He blew out a long breath and stepped across the snow. A cool blast of wind leaked in through his thin T-shirt. His balls shriveled into peanuts. No wonder the lady and her dog were both shivering.

"I need a wife. Plain and simple."
Presley slanted a hip. "There ain't nothing simple about marriage...or you!"
One corner of his mouth leisurely slipped into a panty-melting grin. "That's what you need, sweetheart. A cowboy who'll keep you guessing, breathing heavy, always anticipating his next touch."
"You're full of yourself, Urban. You might have a line of buckle bunnies, but you won't find me hanging out in the fan club. The last thing I want, or need, is a man who thinks he's God's gift to women."
"I think I'll have fun proving you wrong."

Lifting herself up on hind legs, she thrashed the air, angrily. Braise stepped back.
“Hold on, Urban!” Presley shouted.
He held the rope tightly, digging his boots in as Braise joined him. The horse was strong and wasn’t backing down.
“Shoot, Cheryl.” Urban heard Presley yell followed by a cry out in pain.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the tranquilizer dart sticking out of Presley’s shoulder as she wobbled, then fell to the ground.

Ruby red colored her cheeks and her irises blossomed into dark targets. Yeah, the death glare was back. He deserved it. The words had slipped out. She cleared her throat. “I wouldn’t know. This is our first date.”
“Marrying kind?” Hugh said with a scoff. “Are you looking, Pres?”
“No.” She dared Urban to make a peep otherwise.
He lifted an eyebrow, almost forgetting that Rena was snuggled up close until she shifted and brushed against his crotch. By her sweet smile she must have believed his expansion was due to her, but Urban knew without a doubt that the unfriendly lady across from him was the culprit. She had some control over him that he couldn’t quite understand. “Sweetheart, maybe you should move.”
Rena blinked, her nose wrinkled and she nudged him in the ribs as she pushed away. “Good to see you, Dr. Dean. I hope you’re doing great.”
“Fine, thank you, Rena.”
There was no love lost between the two and Urban had no understanding why, nor did he care. Rena strolled away, probably angry. “So, is that the new flavor of the month?” Presley drawled.
“Ain’t none of your business,” he said in moody tone. He couldn’t allow her to get to him.
“Oh, but it’ your business who I’m with?”
Hugh was watching the duo closely, the area between his brows scrunching. “I see you two are still at it.”
“No, we’re fine. Aren’t we, tiger? I mean, can I call you tiger? That’s what your cast reads.” She grinned and gave him a gentle tap on the face.

He didn’t even look to see what Rena had written. “Better than good. Happy hunting,” he said in a lowered voice.

She waved over the waitress. “May I borrow your pen just for a sec?” Pen in hand, she bent close, within inches of his face, as she jotted something. A satisfied grin crossed her beautiful lips. He couldn’t stop staring, even when she stood. “See you around, Hugh. Good luck in the race. And you Urban,” she snarled.
Once she was gone, he read what she wrote. “Grow up. And by the way. Your pants are unzipped.”
“Damn.” He zipped his jeans. He heard soft laughter and looked to her table.

Urban stood and started past Presley, but had a better idea. “Thank you for noticing, Pres.” He tipped his hat and grinned, moving on.

#SixSentenceSunday--Urban's Rush

#SixSentenceSunday

18+ ONLY!

Urban's Rush

Presley bent back her head and laughed. He liked the melodic sound and the way several strands of hair had loosened from the messy bun and had fallen around her pale cheeks. Lowering his gaze, he could see the outline of her nipples through the wet T-shirt and his cock twitched. The last thing he needed was a hard on for a woman he couldn’t stand. Not one bit. Maybe just a bit, proof in the way his zipper stretched.
“I haven’t had sex in so long I’m beginning to think my parts are growing together.” Presley sighed. “At least I’ll get something from marriage.”
“Then maybe you should look for a man with a big di—”

At an early age, Rhonda fell in love with romance novels, knowing one day she’d write her own love story. Life took a short detour, but when the story ideas would no longer be contained, she decided to dive in and write. Her first rough draft was on a dirty napkin she found buried in her car. Eventually, she ran out of napkins. With baby on one hip and laptop on the other, she made a dream into reality—one word at a time.
Her specialty is men who love to get their hands dirty and women who are smart, strong and flawed. She loves writing about the everyday hero.
When Rhonda isn't crafting sizzling manuscripts, you will find her busy editing novels, blogging, juggling kids and animals (too many to name), dreaming of a beach house and keeping romance alive. Oh, and drinking lots of coffee to keep up with her characters.
